Topic
Many of you attended Art Hershey's workshop on Resumes, Networking, and Interviewing in February. His workshop was so helpful, we asked him to come back for Postdoc Week. He'll be giving a two-part presentation (you can attend either or both parts). The first hour will be dedicated to how to successfully prepare for and work a career fair. The second hour will be a workshop on resume writing. Please bring a copy of your normal academic CV and a draft of your conversion of the CV into a resume. Those of you who attended the February workshop should use his suggestions to make a first draft. Those of you who did not attend the first workshop should still make a first attempt. Mr. Hershey will work with you to help you craft a resume that will help you get noticed when you apply for non-academic jobs.
Remember the Following
- Keep it brief - a resume should be two pages max. If you have a lot of publications, attach an addendum.
- Write a brief summary of your qualifications (not objectives), no more than 2-3 sentences.
- Keep resume items bulleted and to the point, leave lots of page space visible.
- If you missed the seminar, use online resources to make the first draft of your resume. This Career Handbook from Stanford has useful information: Stanford Handbook.
