UCLA Postdoc Week Events

A series of preparatory seminars on key career development issues will be offered in the weeks leading up to the PhD Career Fair. Seminar topics are driven by postdoc interest, so if you have a suggestion for this or future seminar series, please let us know at: Seminar Suggestions. The list of available seminars and RSVP details will be updated as they are planned, so check back often for new information.

During Postdoc Week, there will be a special session of new postdoc orientation hosted by UCLA Graduate Division. However, orientation is offered on a monthly basis and you can RSVP at the above link for an upcoming session. Open to all postdoctoral and visiting scholars, even if you are not so new anymore.

Each year, Graduate Division hosts a reception to honor UCLA Postdoctoral Scholars. The reception is open to all postdocs and is the location for the presentation of the Chancellor's Award for Postdoctoral Research. Graduate Division will email postdocs with the opportunity to RSVP for the event. More details and reservations can be made at the above link, closer to the time of the event.

Organizations interested in recruiting UCLA postdocs will be holding information sessions on campus March 11, 2009, to coincide with the PhD Career Events. This schedule will be determined and made available to UCLA Postdocs after Employer Registration is complete. UCLA is inviting renowned researcher, administrator, and policymaker, MRC Greenwood, to address postdocs. She will be speaking on "Brightening Your Future: Maximizing Your Assets." This event will be followed by a Wine & Cheese Reception (described below) at which our Keynote Speaker will act as Guest of Honor.

The Postdoc Networking Reception and Poster Session is a unique opportunity for postdocs to discuss their their with potential employers in a relaxed atmosphere, while recruiters will have the opportunity to mingle and network with postdocs at the reception.   Poster Session Preparation Tips

Interested employers will be on hand to network with poster presenters, and some employers will be hosting display booths. You will have the opportunity ask questions to the organization recruiters, drop of resumes or pick up applications. Recruiters will have the opportunity to meet with UCLA's exceptional group of postdocs and make contacts for future hiring and collaboration.

The UCLA Society of Postdoctoral Scholars will be hosting a social event for postdocs 9:30pm - 1:30 am at the Whiskey Blue Bar in the W Hotel in Westwood. SoPS is the active Postdoc Association at UCLA that hosts numerous social and career events and acts as an advisory group to the UCLA Administration. All UCLA postdocs are welcome to join and participate in SoPS!
